Travel
The Dix Hills Soccer Club has many
travel teams in both the boys and girls divisions. Tryouts are generally held
to select players for a team. Commitment is essential for anyone interested in
playing travel soccer. The players work hard to advance their skills and
knowledge of the game. Our individual teams register with the LIJSL and play
other clubs throughout Long Island. Within the travel program, teams play at
their own proficiency level. To promote fair competition, there are divisions
from 1 (the highest skills) on up. Travel teams typically range from under 10
years old, (U-10) through under 18 years old (U-18). Team size varies by age
division. Travel soccer is very competitive and is under the direction of the
Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) who provide schedules, referees and a
competitive atmosphere (see lijsoccer link for more info). In addition to the
travel program, there are higher levels of soccer: the Select Program, which is
run by LIJSL, and the Premier and ODP (Olympic Development Program), which are
run by the NY State Youth Soccer Association (see eny soccer link).
Sportsmanship awards are presented by the LIJSL to teams in every division.
How do I get uniforms?
Travel teams have different uniforms than intramural and inter-league – see the
uniforms section for information and order forms or contact your coach for more
information.
How are teams formed?
Tryouts are held for each age group in the spring of each season. Teams are
formed based on ability.
You must be accepted by a coach before you can be placed on a travel team.
What is the club policy for playing time?
Coaches determine playing time at the travel level.
How do I get winter gym time?
Winter gym time is allocated at the end of the fall season.
A schedule coordinator is designated and times are provided to travel teams
first and then other teams. Teams that have people involved in helping the club
with have preference over those that don’t.
